Creche Transformation

Client: Mm Capital
PM: Mm Capital
Architect: Hussey Architects
QS: Mm Capital
Consultant: Axis Engineering
Duration: 14 weeks
Budget: 1.2m

Overview:
Built Interiors was engaged by Mm Capital to transform an 8,700 sq ft space into a state-of-the-art creche, complete with a 2,000 sq ft external soft play area. The goal was to create a secure, functional facility that met all the developmental and practical needs of young children, ranging from Wobblers and Toddlers to Preschoolers.
The fit-out featured child-centric amenities including a commercial-grade kitchen, age-appropriate WC facilities, sleep rooms, nappy changing areas, and kitchenettes. Spacious, brightly decorated rooms were created to inspire exploration and learning, while a secure outdoor play area provided year-round opportunities for children to develop through play.
Challenges Faced:
Built Interiors worked closely with the design team to ensure that the creche adhered to all Dublin City Council (DCC) and Túsla requirements. One of the primary challenges was the need for specific age-appropriate facilities, such as WCs, sinks, and seamless, hygienic safety flooring. Safety was paramount, with additional considerations such as finger protection on doors and strict hygiene standards implemented throughout the build.

While the creche itself was not operational during construction, the building above was fully occupied by office staff, and a gym operated in the basement below. This presented logistical challenges in terms of noise, access, and scheduling, which were carefully managed to avoid disruption to neighbouring businesses.

The creche was situated in a residential area, with a local neighbourhood committee actively involved in monitoring the project. Built Interiors maintained open communication with committee members, addressing any concerns and fostering a positive relationship with the surrounding community.

Success Achieved:
The project was successfully completed within the 14-week timeframe, delivering a facility that not only met but exceeded the client’s expectations. Safety was a key focus throughout, and Built Interiors was awarded the Safety Cert Level A Certification, a testament to the high standards maintained during the project.
The trust established with Mm Capital during this project has led to continued collaboration on future developments. The result was a well-designed, professional, and safe environment that supports the growth and happiness of both children and staff.
Conclusion:
Built Interiors delivered a carefully executed, thoughtfully designed space that nurtures learning and development for children, while ensuring the highest safety and hygiene standards. Despite the challenges of managing community relations and accommodating changes from the client, the project was completed on time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.
This project is a shining example of Built Interiors' ability to adapt to change, mitigate challenges, and deliver high-quality results, all while maintaining strong client relationships and a commitment to safety.
